IDC's Ecco Personal GPS Locator requires calibration before it's first use and re calibrated whenever it's moved 100 miles or more from the location it was calibrated last. Calibration is a quick and simple process. It's important because your Ecco stores magnetic field inputs which can vary greatly by location. Setup and calibration is also important for maintaining the accuracy of the digital compass. The more accurate the calibration the better you Ecco can pinpoint your starting location.

Here are the simple steps to calibrate your Ecco...

  1. Find a location away from tall buildings, overhanging trees, nearby power lines and large metal structures.
  2. Turn on your Ecco and allow it to find the satellites and initialize. The screen will show READY when this is completed.
  3. Hold your Ecco flat with the face up and press and hold the Location 1 Button for 3 seconds until the message "Hold flat and press lock appears on the LCD display.
  4. Press the Lock Button.
  5. Turn the Ecco 180° keeping the face up and once again press the Lock Button.
  6. Place your finger on but to not press the Lock Button and turn the Ecco face down.
  7. Press the Lock Button.
  8. Turn your Ecco face up and you'll briefly see the message Calibration Complete on the display just before the Ecco
    returns to READY Mode.
