The Wide Café Cap is made from non toxic polypropylene (pp#5). It does not leach any chemicals when exposed to heat and does not impart any funky smells or flavors into your drink. It doesn't retain any smells or flavors from what you carried in your mug yesterday or last week.
A good reason for not making the Café Cap out of Stainless Steel is that non insulated stainless steel easily transmits the heat from the contents.

The Café Cap is easy to drink from and there are no unpleasant surprises when you hit a bump because they're splash proof.
The Café Cap isn't leak proof. It doesn't come pouring out when you turn it upside down or lay it on it's side. But it will leak so you'll want the Stainless Loop Cap that I do include with my Klean Kanteen Insulated Combo or the D-Ring Cap. These caps don't leak and you're safe placing your Klean Kanteen in your backpack, purse or whatever. It takes just a second to switch caps when you're ready to drink.
If you would forget your Café Cap it's not the end of the world because you can easily drink from the bottle itself because the top is wide and the edges are rounded.
The cafe cap is also splash proof and just makes it a lot easier especially of your driving because getting a face full of hot coffee after hitting a bump isn't the "morning wake-me-up" most of us have in mind.
