SPARE SPIKE™ snow and ice cleats are made by JORDAN DAVID. Their 35 years of experience in making professional grade slip resistant footwear shows in their attention to detail and the number of innovative, patented features not found in any competing products. SPARE SPIKE Ice Cleats have unique features and additional durability that make them the best choice for many people. Here's why..
 |
| Spare Spike Ice Cleats can be more comfortable than many competing products when worn on soft sneakers because they won't pinch your toes. |
- They're called SPARE SPIKE™ ice cleats because there's a spare spike on the top of the front of each ice cleat. That's important because losing a spike is comparable to getting a flat tire. Now I'm not suggesting that the spikes are easily lost because they're tight and secure. But in the unlikely event you did lose a spike your traction is compromised. With competing products, even those with replaceable spikes, it's unlikely you're going to have one with you. You're safer with SPARE SPIKE™ Ice Cleats because you'll always have two extra spikes if and when you need them most.

Patented Dual Pull Tabs make Spare Spike Ice Cleats easy to put on. You won't find them on any competing ice cleats...
|
- SPARE SPIKE™ ice cleats are extremely easy to put on because of JORDAN DAVID's patented DUAL PULL TAB system. You put the front of your shoe or boot in the front strap. Then grab the two textured pull tabs with both hands pulling outward and backward at the same time and they go right over the heel of your shoe or boot. And while everyone will appreciate this feature it's especially important for older folks who have arthritis or other conditions causing weakness in their hands and have problems stretching competing ice cleats over their footwear.
- Spare Spike Ice Cleats fit over almost any shoe. They're easy to put on but stay securely on your shoes even in deep, wet snow.

Aggressive, self-cleaning treads are good for deeper snow and even mud.
|
Like my spikeless ice cleats SPARE SPIKE™ ice cleats give you great traction on ice and packed snow. But they also give you traction in deeper snow, slush and even mud because of the aggressive, non-clogging tread pattern. There are eight strategically positioned durable carbonized steel spikes for traction on ice and packed snow. My spikeless ice cleats have more biting edges but Spare Spike's cleats are more aggressive
so it doesn't take as many to get the job done.

The interior is textured to help keep them firmly in place.
|
-
A key characteristic of effective ice cleats is to stay in position on your shoes without shifting. SPARE SPIKES™ are textured on interior surfaces so that the sole and heel of your shoe grabs hold of the ice cleat keeping it from shifting. This also keeps the cleat's bottom from buckling which helps stop the spikes from coming loose. Texturing on the inside of the heel strap that also keeps it from slipping off in deep snow and mud.
-
A typical user can expect years of service from SPARE SPIKES™ because they're made from a durable, TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) compound which is as strong as rubber but with better stretch and better memory (returns to its original shape). Spikes are replaceable in seconds without requiring any tools and stay securely in place. It's still considered a light duty ice cleat which serves the needs of most people.
If you need tougher ice cleats with the SPARE SPIKE's™ features for outdoor work you should consider JORDAN DAVID GRIP-X Ice Grippers or JORDAN DAVID ALTRAGRIPS Ice Cleats.
- They're lightweight weighing about 8 oz./pair. You won't notice you're wearing them.
- Spikeless ice cleats won't damage most floors. SPARE SPIKE™ ice cleats definitely will. But this is academic because you should never wear spikeless ice cleats indoors anyway because they're extremely slippery on smooth dry surfaces. So, like spikeless ice cleats, always take Spare Spikes off before going indoors.
- You can drive wearing SPARE SPIKES™ which is not recommended while wearing my spikeless ice cleats.
- Ladies, you can use these with most high heels because you can remove the heel portion. But once you do you would definitely want another pair of ice cleats for your regular shoes and boots because the heel traction is critically important. I definitely do not recommend you walk on ice in high heels! But in a pinch...when you don't have your flat shoes or boots and you get a surprise ice storm you're going to want your SPARE SPIKE™ ice cleats.
| You won't be able to use any other ice cleat this way... |
