I have discontinued selling the Yaktrax XTR for the 2010 - 2011 season because of reported quality problems. Yaktrax will introduce an improved version for the 2011 - 2012 winter season.

Yaktrax XTR addresses a criticism often made about the Yaktrax Walker and Yaktrax Pro ... suitability and durability for off road applications. But the Yaktrax Walker and Yaktrax Pro with the SkidLock traction system were never designed for off road applications. The coils tended to pick up debris and both the straps and coils would wear out quickly when exposed to the rough, sharp surfaces encountered in off road use.

Yaktrax XTR has extra heavy duty rubber compound straps to securely hold them in place on you hiking or running shoes. Like the straps on the Walker and Pro they remain flexible at temperatures down to -41° Fahrenheit.
Yaktrax XTR's heavy duty rust and abrasion resistant carbon steel chains with twenty
3/8" spikes (10 on each shoe) are attached
to the rubber strap in a way that only the chains and spikes come in contact with the ground.
The patent pending exclusive design also prevents snow buildup and clogging.

The flexible rubber straps ride higher on the XTR than on competing off road ice cleats. They not only stay on better but the elasticity pulls the slack out of the chains and spike plates reducing the chance of tripping.

Although heavy duty and tough Yaktrax XTR are lightweight because even the Large XTR adds only 6.3 oz. to your shoe.

The XTR comes with a free heavy duty protective nylon storage bag.

Yaktrax XTR is not the best choice for the majority of people looking for ice traction devices. If you're walking of running on sidewalks, parking lots, or paved streets you'll be better off with the Yaktrax Walker or Yaktrax Pro.
But if you need traction for off road activities the Yaktrax XTR is ideal. Off road activities might include:

Yaktrax run small. If your shoe size is at the top of a size range you may be better off getting the next larger size especially if you plan to wear Yaktrax over heavy boots or shoes.
